Don't Stand So Close to Paul Weller

Apparently former leadman of The Jam and Style Council, Paul Weller, doesn't think that everything Sting does is magic. The rest of the world may be reborn fans of The Police, but The Modfather isn't part of that group. I'm not sure why he has such distaste for the Stinger, but it doesn't really matter to me. This article makes me like Mr. Weller even more than I did before. Paul isn't very popular here in the States, but in his native UK, he is worshipped.

Paul Weller spat on a photograph of Sting backstage at his charity show with Noel Gallagher in London earlier this week, according to reports.

The former Jam hero is not thought to be a fan of the Police star, having recently referred to him as "a f*cking horrible man".

It has now been claimed in a UK tabloid that during an interval at Gallagher's Royal Albert Hall gig for the Teenage Cancer Trust, Weller came across a 2000 picture of Sting.

Apparently, he "marched straight up to it, coughed-up as much phlegm as he could muster and planted it plum in the middle of The Police frontman's head...as he walked away, Weller then snarled: 'F*cking twat!'"

Weller played a cover of The Jam's "The Butterfly Collector" and The Beatles' "All You Need Is Love" with the Oasis star at Tuesday's concert.

The song that introduced me to Paul Weller is still one of my favorites of his. This track was a single off of one of his recent solo albums. Check out the fantastic "It's Written in the Stars".

It seems that the problem between them dates back to the '80s when a group of musicians started a political movement called the Red Wedge. The idea was to turn the young voters away from the right wing Thatcher government.

Apparently they had a benefit concert and Sting refused to play stating that he voted Labor, isn't that enough? Apparently not enough to Weller...

Paul Weller is a hero! :-)
