This Is Just A Tribute

I'm not really sure what to make of this most recent tribute to John Lennon's music. I realize that this is for charity and that the producers are targeting the largest audience possible, and I do not blame them for that at all, but for the sake of musical argument only, I've provided some analysis after the tracklist.

Instant Karma track listing:

Disc One:
U2 -- "Instant Karma"
R.E.M. -- "#9 Dream"
Christina Aguilera -- "Mother"
Aerosmith -- "Give Peace A Chance"
Lenny Kravitz -- "Cold Turkey"
Los Lonely Boys -- "Whatever Gets You Thru the Night"
Corinne Bailey Rae -- "I'm Losing You"
Jakob Dylan featuring Dhani Harrison -- "Gimme Some Truth"
Jackson Browne -- "Oh My Love"
Big & Rich -- "Nobody Told Me"

Disc Two:
Green Day -- "Working Class Hero"
Black Eyed Peas -- "Power to the People"
Jack Johnson -- "Imagine"
Snow Patrol -- "Isolation"
Matisyahu -- "Watching the Wheels"
Ben Harper -- "Beautiful Boy"
The Postal Service -- "Grow Old With Me"
Jaguares -- "Gimme Some Truth"
Avril Lavigne -- "Imagine"
The Flaming Lips -- "(Just Like) Starting Over"
Regina Spektor -- "Real Love"
My Analysis:
1. Christina Aguilera - Huh?
2. Big and Rich - Really?
3. Black Eyed Peas - Come On.
4. Avril Lavigne covering the immortal "Imagine"! Someone should be arrested for this and put in a cell with Mark David Chapman.

Additionally, according to an article on Starpulse:
However acts like Duran Duran, Ozzy Osbourne and Willie Nelson all missed the cut. In total, album organizers had 50 Lennon renditions to work with. The 30 acts who missed out on an album place will feature as digital downloads via online retailers.

Aerosmith is still alive??? I think to appeal to the widest possible audience, Avril Lavigne is a great choice (I mean, Complicated is indeed a badass song).

But Aerosmith? Who the hell listens to Aerosmith anymore? Aside from Dream On, Aerosmith ranks up there with Bon Jovi and David Bowie as the most overrated musicians of all time.

Now maybe if they changed out Steven Tyler with Liv Tyler, and they made a video of it instead. But instead of her singing on stage, they just showed that clip of her from The Fellowship of the Ring where she's on the horse as the little hobbits are crossing the river being chased by the Nazgul. And then she uses her powers to make the river wash away the Nazgul ... she was both hot and badass in that scene.

Speechless...

I think I'm marginally interested in two of the songs:

Matisyahu's version of "Watching The Wheels" and Jakob Dylan and Dhani Harrison's version of "Gimme Some Truth".

On a side note, what is really sad is that much of today's youth will be exposed to Lennon for the first time via Fergie and Avril...PATHETIC!

Imagine is a great song and all..but why is it on Disc 2, twice? They couldn't have used one of those tracks for Willie. Hell I would have taken Duran Duran. And how do you not have Ozzy on Cold Turkey. That would have been priceless.
