With today's airwaves crammed with the Pussycat Dolls, Beyonce and "Fergilicious," it's no wonder that many of us desperately clutch to the music of our past. A major part of my past was the 90's -- a decade filled with defiant rockers fed up with the glam and cheese of their 80's predecessors. So for for the next few weeks, The Weight will pay homage to these bands -- some forgotten and some still remembered.
Our first clip brings you one of the seminal songwriting groups of this period -- Stone Temple Pilots. Not quite grunge, not quite hard rock, STP merged the music of the day and the music of their past to create some of the most memorable songs of the decade. Notably, the band had fifteen Billboard top ten singles including six #1's and one #1 album. It comes as no surprise that STP cites The Beatles, The Doors and Led Zeppelin as some of their main influences. Source: Wikipedia
